Tendremos la posibilidad de crear nuestro propio personaje, masculino o femenino, y hasta configurar las habilidades iniciales con que vamos a contar. Greedfall es un juego muy diverso que no nos atará a ninguna estructura de juego definida. Tendremos la capacidad de ser magos, guerreros o algunos tipos de técnicos definidos.

Nuestro personaje lo podremos profundizar tanto consigamos recursos y habilidades para generar estrategias ganadoras. La gama de habilidades van desde el manejo de armas blancas y de fuego, hasta el manejo de todo tipo de trampas.

También podremos usar hechizos y conjuros orientados a atacar. Las municiones escasean por lo que debemos tener en cuenta la época de la historia donde estamos. Para eso si abundan las espadas y demás armas de tipo mecánico.

La forma de combate es dinámica y se centra en buscar momentos donde nuestros enemigos bajan la guardia, y ahí atacar con daños mortales. Es vital mantener distancias y saber huir cuando sepamos que nuestras condiciones actuales no dan para ganar.
